Anxiety
Bowen Therapy can be truly the most relaxing treatment available. And to the massage die-hards this could be a tough pill to swallow.
Something goes on deep inside when we have Bowen. The muscles, tendons and ligaments and even the fascia seem to totally relax – This relaxation is that deep feeling of sinking into the bed after an amazing sleep, your whole body can feel as though it’s sinking down and it’s almost impossible to move.
This is something that never happens during massage or most other treatments.
During Bowen Therapy I don’t usually focus on the area of discomfort initially. Through the process, where I start at the base of the spine, the body commences it’s own healing journey. The body basically takes over. I merely orchestrate – I press the buttons – the body heals itself by prioritising the best possible way to accomplish a solid, positive outcome.
An example that springs to mind is a young girl aged 16 presenting with terrible migraines.
We did the 3 treatments – her migraines had diminished, but were still there. We decided to give it a break for a few weeks and see how she goes.
After about a month the parents booked her in again – “how is she” I asked The parents replied “She still has the migraines – BUT she is SO nice now! So we want you to continue to keep her there.”
This made me laugh and took me by surprise. Having no idea that she was being a bit of a ‘pain in the butt’ at home made things even clearer – so I targeted the coccyx in the treatment.
We did a few more Bowens – her migraines cleared completely, she remained nice and everyone was happy. This girl had to have the source relieved first, which appeared to be hormone based, once her body balanced, it was ready to fix the migraines.
Job done.
Anxiety is a situation where we have a goal – a plan – that we have set for ourselves but just isn’t happening as far as we can see. Whether this is because it’s unachievable or is slowly morphing into our lives is of no consequence at the time of our stress.
We just want it to happen or be fixed.
Another case is a woman who would come in having a panic attack. Even though she was on medication and I was in touch with her Dr she found that the only quick way to relieve them was Bowen.
Luckily that was at a time when I ran 3 rooms at once and could always fit her in on short notice.
The result was almost instantaneous, her panicked breathing would calm down, eyes would close and mind stopped going a million miles an hour. It was such a relief for her. Then we’d have a bit of a talk and I knew she left feeling much better and more grounded.
The results of a bowen are many – not only does your body feel less pain and become more fluid but the mind becomes clear and relaxed. Things come into sharper focus and decisions can be made with a sense of confidence.
Stress, anxiety and even depression can be lifted, and a feeling of lightness that just isn’t compatible with anxiety prevails.
